The following images are from a gathering in Ano Pedina village some years ago to help with the shearing of Kostas’ sheep herd.
The shearing is called kouros or koura and is the shearing of the woolen fleece of a sheep. The shearing usually takes place at the beginning of summer so that the sheep do not suffer from the summer heat.
In the past, many families with unmarried daughters used to order good quality wool from the breeders to make woolen clothes and blankets for their dowries.
Usually after the shearing there is a feast for the shearers and the guests!!
